Policies: OOC Behavior
Etiquette, or 'How to Get Along on XMM.'
- The golden rule of XMM, as in life, is to treat others as you would like to be treated.
- Use proper grammar, punctuation, capitalization, and spelling. A little effort in these things will go a long way toward earning you good will from fellow players.
- Pay attention to the responses of others. If sarcasm of snarkiness seems to be getting a bad response, cut it out, especially if you don't know the players well. If jokes aren't going over well, likewise.
- Do not page people to chat unless you are good friends. Most people on game are not a fan of this.
- Avoid spilling all the details of your life on public channel or constantly talking about yourself. It comes across as attention-seeking. Instead, ask people about themselves!
- Avoid passive-aggressive behavior.
Learn by example, in both OOC interactions and during RP. You can also visit our player-written 'guide to us' on the forum.
XMM can be a fast-paced game, and as such it can be difficult to stay involved if you are not logged in at least once a week; most players are connected and roleplaying several times a week.
Any character which goes unused for 30 days is eligible for reaping. When we perform a reap, we give all idle characters a warning and one week to communicate with Staff about their absence and their wishes for the character. If we haven't received a response after a week, we will delete the character.
Character squatting is considered the same as idling. Characters which have appeared on two out of three consecutive idle-reap lists will be reaped without the week's warning.
If you know that you're going to be away but intend to return, please notify Staff so that arrangements can be worked out. You can also use @vacation to keep yourself from reaping for up to two months.
We know it happens, but use common sense. The game is rated R for in-scene language and adult situations, but keep it off public channels and out of OOC rooms. While LJs are considered private and not game property, we also request that, out of consideration for your fellow players, you avoid using explicit language in the entries and cut-tags of logs and mark them if they contain sexually explicit material.
As for TS:
- Keep it in private rooms. That means you own the room, and no one can just walk in on you and catch you unawares.
- Make sure you know the person you're TSing with. They must be of legal age (to be safe, consider this over 18) and they must be consenting. XMM has a suggested minimum age of 17, but it is not mandatory so be sure to ask!
- Sexual harassment or pressuring someone into TSing will result in @toading. No warnings.
Harassment is defined on XMM as continued attention that persists after someone has asked that you refrain. It also encompasses inappropriate sexual, racial, or gender remarks.
Keep in mind that we are a community. Pay attention to and read the signs of your fellow players. If they seem uncomfortable or unresponsive, stop. Likewise, if someone is bothering you, ask them clearly to stop their behavior, so that they are aware that there is a problem.
If someone asks you to leave them alone, do it. If someone asks you to refrain from a certain sort of remarks, likewise, do it. However, keep in mind that our game is rated R, and if conversation about some aspects that fall under this rating makes you feel uncomfortable, it may be best to avoid certain channels or conversations.
If you feel harassed, log the incident and inform Staff by page, @mail, or email. Logged proof makes the situation easier to judge and to deal with.
