Emerson University

Emerson University is the game's fictional New York university and was the first university physically on grid (Queens). It is a private school of about 9,000 undergraduates and a little under 3,000 graduate students. They have the usual wide variety of majors and course offerings and have Masters programs in history, english literature, education, library science, computer science, applied mathematics, philosophy, and sociology (a list that's open to addition for game play as needed). They also have PhD programs in biology and chemistry, and are known for having a good undergraduate program in both.

Undergrad tuition, fees, and room and board runs roughly $34,000 a year and tends to go up in increments every year. They run on a semester system, typically from the week before Labor Day until the week before Christmas, and then from the second week in January until the first week of May, with graduation generally held the second weekend of May. Finals are the last week of the semester.

Emerson has a variety of extra curricular activities, including a very active theater department and most usual collegiate sports. Their men's lacrosse team usually does quite well, and their mascot is the Swordfish.

Columbia University

Columbia University is an Ivy League university located in New York City, in Morningside Heights on the north end of Manhattan. While we occasionally take liberties with Columbia to suit RP, we base it primarily around RL facts. It is home to about 5,500 undergraduates and 14, 500 graduate students and is considered one of the most prestigious universities in the United States.

On XMM, the focus on Columbia is with the graduate students, while Emerson University is home to most undergraduate characters. Many live in the Morningside Heights apartment complex, located in the Apartments in the Sky. There are no Columbia rooms on grid, and RP at the University relies on the Stage rooms.
